Justification Of Planning Decision Changes

When I first designed my magazine, I decided to give my cover a grey background, and to have a strap line at the bottom of the page advertising the main features. I also chose to have three secondary articles on the cover. The fonts I used were called Distress and Plastique, which I believed would fit my audience and purpose. My house colours were red, white and black which symbolise an alternative genre. When taking my first images I realised the mise- en- scene did not fit the genre of my magazine as the costume and make up was not thought out. I then re- took the pictures considering these elements and the photos were much more adequate. On my contents page, originally I had 5 images, however two were blurry, and three were related to the same article. I realised that I needed to include more images, related to the other articles I had included in the magazine. I then changed my contents page to have less pictures to do with my primary article, and I made a box for features and a box for regulars. I also included a section at the bottom called ‘section from the editor’, which I thought would make my page more interesting. In my double page spread, I originally had 4 images, however they were rather big, and my text was to big also. I then made changes to my magazine by changing the background colour to orange on all three pages to give it more energy as a piece, I also added more text on the double page spread and changed the layout of the contents page. I also added more pictures to my front cover, a barcode and a web address. Once I had completed my pages, I decided I was unsure of the style. I went over the contents page and changed the fonts to give it a more futuristic style. I changed the background colour to grey and removed the strap line. I changed the master head to make it smaller and moved the barcode to the bottom right hand corner. On the contents page I angled the pictures and moved them around a bit. I changed the background colour to match the contents page and changed the fonts as well. On my double page spread I changed the background colour, font and angled the images. The only thing I need to change now is the background colour again to make the images stick out. I was thinking a light red to match with the house colours.

Comparison of Reader Profiles.

Reader Profile Comparison
The reader profiles of NME and Word magazine are very different, both in how they are presented and also in their content. The NME reader profile is presented in a pdf format, whereas the word profile is presented as text on their website. The NME profile consists of pictures as well as text. The top of the page is presented as a ‘collage’ style with an overlap of all different kinds of images representing things that they believe relate to their readers interests. They are pictures of things that would mainly appeal to young readers, such as technology for example things such as iPods and Xbox’s. It also includes food and drink that the readers may like. The word reader profile is merely text in a box on a website. This may imply that the readers of word are more educated than the readers of NME and maybe an older audience who do not need to be influenced and drawn to read something by the pictures.
When the reader profile of NME begins, it is not set out as a block of text, it is divided into sub-sections and is not fully constructed. It is non specific, unlike the word profile which focuses specifically on one reader, and It gives us personal information. Not personal details, but things that would not be generalised to every member of their audience. This includes the mentioning of how music became a part of their life, which is obviously something that would not be the same with every one of their readers. All of the facts and figures that are featured in NME profile are averages and estimates, whereas the word profile figures are specific to one reader. The NME profile uses the pronoun ‘they’, which shows that the profile is generalised. The profile is all facts and figures and percentages, whereas the Word profile discusses the life of the reader and what social group they are from, how old they are, how much they earn etc. The NME profile gives percentages on what most of the readers earn and how much they spend.
They are similar as they both touch on the same topics, such as how much their reader(s) spend on media products such as films and CD’s. It also discusses age and salary.
Reader profiles, whether they are generalised or not have certain things that they must contain. They normally contain statistics of some sort. They will also give an idea of age of their readers and sometimes even gender. Salary is also normally mentioned, which leads onto the social class of the reader. This gives the magazine an idea of the kind of language and content they should include to appeal to the majority of their readers. They also mention the kind of money that their readers spend on media products, either annually or monthly. They also talk about the interest and hobbies of the readers. Therefore even if the format of the profile is different, the content is generally similar.

Possible Titles For Music Magazine.

I have come up with three possible names for my music magazine. These are based upon the genre of the magazine which i have decided to be more of a rock or alternative style of magazine.

The first possible title is Muzak, which is a play on the word of music, however it sounds a bit more random and alternative, which is overall the idea of the magazine.

The second possiblilty is Crunk, which is onomatopoeic, and creates a 'crunching' noise which relates to the music featured being loud and sometimes inappropriate.

The third possibility is MFN, which stands for Music From Nothing, which insinuates that the music featured is recent and up to date and that it will give all bands a chance and help to promote them.

Possible Titles For Sixth Form Magazine.

The first title i have come up with is 'When in Frees'. The implication of this title is that people will generally read it when they are in a free period and have nothing else to do.

The second title that i have come up with is 'The Alternative'. The implication of this title is exactly what it says, the alternative to things such as doing work maybe or doing nothing in free periods. The connotations could also apply to the other school magazine, implying that this is the other choice.

The third title i have come up with is 'CSF' which stands for County Sixth Form, which implies that the onle people who will read it will attend Brentwood County High Sixth Form.
